Aristides (ar-is-ti'-deez), an Athenian patriot whose unbending integrity gained for him among his countrymen the name of "The Just." He distinguished himself at Marathon, Salamis, and Plataea. After gaining great honor for virtuous conduct, he died poor in 468 B.C. There were also an orator of Adiani in Mysia, a Christian philosopher in Athens, a painter of Thebes, a historian mentioned by Plutarch as of Miletus, and a Greek musician, who bore the same name.
